Research & Scholarship Committee
The central purpose of the committee is to be an advocate for research and scholarship of all kinds throughout all the schools and departments of the University.
Membership
Twelve members with four appointed by the Executive Council each year. The committee should be broadly representative of the University's research interests. The chair of the committee is an ex officio member of the Executive Council and will be nominated to serve as the Senate representative on the University Research Policy Advisory Committee.
Ex officio
Vice Provost for Research
Term in Office
Staggered three-year terms
Functions
This committee will be an advocate of appropriate institutional policies, support structures and facilities for research and scholarship of all kinds throughout the University. While it is likely that a number of the issues the committee will address, such as indirect costs and conflicts of interest, will primarily concern sponsored research, the central purpose of the committee is to be an advocate for all research and scholarship. Whereas the Academic Affairs Committee will formulate policies affecting faculty in the conduct of their duties in areas other than research, the Committee on Research and Scholarship will participate in the development and review of research-related policies.
