Larry Bouchard, Chair of the Research and Scholarship Committee, called the meeting to order.

David Harrison Undergraduate Research Awards

The main business for the meeting was to discuss Harrison Undergraduate Research proposals, and to begin the selection process for the award recipients. These awards are being administered through the Center for Undergraduate Excellence, with oversight from the Faculty Senate. Nicole Hurd, Director of the Center for Undergraduate Excellence, distributed a chart that detailed those proposals chosen for funding, and those not chosen, in the various disciplines. These disciplines are humanities, social sciences, sciences, and engineering.

The group reviewed the scores, and a discussion of those scores began. Several of the proposals that were indicated as "not funded" were discussed, since some readers of those proposals felt the proposals should be funded. There were also questions regarding the allocation of the funding for the awards, and possibly making minor revisions to the selection criteria next year.

Larry Bouchard called for a recommendation to fund the two additional proposals that the group felt should be funded. A recommendation was made, it was seconded, and it passed unanimously.

Mr. Bouchard said the committee will meet again after Spring Break. The meeting will include David Hudson, in the Office of the Vice President for Research. The discussion will by about conflict of interest, conflict of commitment, copyright issues, and patent policy revisions.

Mr. Bouchard asked the committee members to contact him if they had other issues that they would like to discuss, and he would be happy to put it on the agenda. In closing, Mr. Bouchard thanked Nicole Hurd for her work on behalf of the Faculty Senate.

The meeting adjourned at 3:10 p.m.
