American Red Cross
The Red Cross offers various courses in first aid, CPR, and other health-related courses (fee). It helps fire victims and servicemen's families and offers disaster emergency shelters. It also has a workplace program. Register in person. Volunteers may work in these areas: administrative/clerical, community events, courtesy caller, disaster action team, knit and crochet, maintenance, resource coordinator, and instructors.

Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad
Requires volunteers to work 12 hours each week. All volunteers must take the 120-hour emergency medical technician course in preparation for their assignments. To become a member you must also commit to two years of service, run 12 miles per week all year, attend monthly meetings, be 18 years or older, and hold a valid EMT Virginia certification. Emergency Food Bank
Volunteer organization that provides a 2-3 day food supply to individuals and families in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area who find themselves in an emergency without food. Volunteers must commit to working at least two hours a month. A volunteer can work by taking orders in the office, making deliveries, shelving food, or bagging orders. You can also contribute by donating food and/or money.

Hollymead Fire & Rescue
The primary EMS, fire suppression, and rescue agency for Northern Albemarle County. Station 12 has an engine, medic (ambulance), tanker, tower, and battalion chief. No experience necessary to join and free EMT and fire/rescue classes are offered.

Virginia Blood Services
Volunteers are needed not only to donate blood, but also to work as part of the VBS team. They will place volunteers with various opportunities based on interests.
