Parking and Transportation Tips for Final Exercises

These parking and transportation tips have been compiled to provide more detailed information on parking and shuttle routes before and after the 2014 Final Exercises ceremony as well as the proximity of the parking venues to various diploma ceremony locations.

McCormick Road will be closed between University Avenue and the bridge over Emmet Street on Sunday, May 18 from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m. Guests who are unable to walk from a parking area may be dropped off near the Physics Building where, beginning at 7 a.m., a Step-Saver golf cart will bring them to Garrett Hall or they may take a shuttle bus to and from central Grounds.

 

Shuttle Bus Routes BEFORE Final Exercises

From Scott Stadium Map Beginning at 7 a.m., buses will load near the entrance of the Student Activities Building and will stop on McCormick Road near the University Chapel. Guests may park in the Scott Stadium lots. Shuttles will not stop at diploma ceremony sites prior to Final Exercises.
From University Hall Map Beginning at 7 a.m., buses will load near the west entrance of University Hall and stop on McCormick Road near the University Chapel. Guests may park in the University Hall or John Paul Jones Arena lots. Shuttles will not stop at diploma ceremony sites prior to Final Exercises.

Parking Tips: Following the parking tips below will allow you to be closer to your vehicle at the end of the diploma ceremonies on Sunday, May 18.

Central Grounds Diploma Ceremonies Parking Persons attending diploma ceremonies on Central Grounds (Alumni Hall, Brooks Hall, Cabell Hall, Drama Building, Hunter Smith Band Building, Jefferson Hall, the Lawn, Memorial Gym, McIntire Amphitheatre, Newcomb Hall, Pavilion Gardens, the Rotunda, Special Collections Library, University Chapel, and Wilson Hall) may park in the Emmet/Ivy parking garage. Complimentary parking will be available but no bus service is provided. It is only a 10-minute walk to the Lawn with a moderate incline.

Another option is to park at Scott Stadium or University Hall and take a bus to the Lawn.

The Culbreth Garage will be open after 10 a.m. Guests who are not going to Final Exercises on the Lawn but plan to attend afternoon diploma ceremonies in the Drama Building, the Hunter Smith Band Building, or Campbell Hall may wish to park there.

North Grounds Diploma Ceremonies Parking Persons attending diploma ceremonies on North Grounds (Darden School, Law School, North Grounds Recreation Center, and John Paul Jones Arena) may park at University Hall/John Paul Jones Arena and take a bus to the Lawn. Buses will load/unload at the west entrance of University Hall.

Following the Lawn ceremony, buses to North Grounds (and University Hall) will load near the University Chapel.

West Grounds Diploma Ceremonies Parking Persons attending diploma ceremonies on West Grounds (Aquatic & Fitness Center, Chemistry Building, Ern Commons, Gilmer Hall, Kent House Lawn, Physics Building, and Darden Court at Thornton Hall) are encouraged to park at Scott Stadium and take a bus to the Lawn. Following the Lawn ceremony, buses to West Grounds will load near the University Chapel.

Following diploma ceremonies on West Grounds, the buses to Scott Stadium and University Hall will load in front of the McCormick Road Residence Area (across the street from the Chemistry Building) and at the intersection of McCormick and Alderman Road (across the street from Observatory Hill Dining Hall).

 

Walking Tips: Following these walking tips may be very helpful for getting around Grounds from the parking locations below, in particular if the weather is pleasant during Finals Weekend.

Emmet/Ivy Parking Garage Map No bus service is available from this parking garage. Using University Avenue, it is only a 10-minute walk with a moderate incline to the Lawn or to diploma ceremonies on Central Grounds.

Using the Goodwin Pedestrian Bridge (across Emmet Street) and the U.Va. Grounds Walk, it is approximately a 10-15 minute walk to Central Grounds with a moderate incline.
