Purpose
To request permission to copy copyrighted material.
Instructions
The sample letter is an example of how to request permission to
copy.
Suggestions for Content of Permission Letter
Request all permissions for a specific project at one time.
Do not request a blanket permission - it cannot, in most cases be
granted.
Include photocopies of the pages requested and of the copyright
page.
Include a return address.
NOTE: The Alderman Copy Center offers a service for faculty,
staff, or students in which it requests permission to copy
copyrighted material. Questions should be directed to 924-3785.

(photocopying enclosed).
Number of copies: 500
Distribution: The material will be distributed to students in
my classes and they will pay only the cost of the
photocopying.
Type of reprint: Photocopy
Use: The chapter will be used as supplementary teaching
materials.
I have enclosed a self-addressed envelope for your convenience
in replying to this request.
