Estimated Cost of Attendance

This page contains estimates of the Cost of Attendance for one year at the University of Virginia, including Tuition and Fees, Room, Board, Personal Expenses and Travel.  Each year Student Financial Services establishes standard estimates to help families determine their financial needs for the year, and for financial aid awarding purposes.

The estimates shown below reflect typical “modest” expense allowances for University of Virginia students and are subject to change.  Some students will spend more than the standard amounts, while others will spend less, depending on individual lifestyles and circumstances.  Eligibility for financial aid, however, is based on the standard estimated allowances, not on individual preferences and spending habits.

Special Situations

A student and/or parent may have changes in their financial situation. Any student or parent may request a re-evaluation of the student's need by submitting an Appeal for Reconsideration to Student Financial Services. Please keep in mind that consumer debt such as credit card bills and car expenses are not considered unique expenses for federal financial aid purposes. To determine if your situation warrants an appeal, see our Appeals for Reconsideration policy
