Appeals for Reconsideration

The Department of education gives Student Financial Services the authority to use Professional Judgment on a case by case basis to adjust elements in the federal need analysis to take into consideration a family's special circumstances. To determine if you can request an Appeal for Reconsideration of your Financial Aid please read the general information.

If you meet the criteria and you would like re-evaluation of your aid please review and complete the Appeal for Reconsideration form.  PLEASE NOTE:  The Student Financial services Appeal Committee will begin reviews for Fall 2009 requests no earlier than January 2010.  Therefore, it is important that you determine alternative methods of payment for Fall and Spring of this academic year until your Appeal can be considered.  Also, Appeals for Reconsideration generally result in additional loan eligibility only.  Additional grant funding is not typically awarded based on recent changes in financial circumstance.

Laptops for Students Program

Any undergraduate student who has applied for Financial Aid, and has not previously received a Laptop through the Laptops for Students Program, or has not received a One-Time Computer Expense loan, may apply for a free laptop through this program.  To be eligible, the student must complete the FAFSA and the University Financial Aid Application (available on-line through the SIS), and have provided all other requested documentation to Student Financial Services.  In addition, the student must complete the Laptops for Students Program Application Form (see link below) by the May 1st deadline.

There are a very limited number of laptops available each year.  Priority is given to entering 1st Year students with demonstrated financial need.   It is important to ensure all proper documentation is submitted to Student Financial Services by the established deadlines.

Please note, if a student receives a laptop through this program, and leaves the University prior to graduation, the laptop MUST be returned to U.Va. prior to departure, as it is considered University property.
