The Alumni Association, established in 1838, provides a range of services to the University and its alumni. The main purposes of the Alumni Association are to aid, strengthen, and expand in every proper and useful way the University of Virginia and its work, and develop, strengthen, and utilize the bonds of interest, sympathy, and affection existing between the University and its alumni and among the alumni themselves. The Alumni Association is also responsible for the maintenance of alumni records; publication of the Alumni News; support of alumni chapters; and administration of the University of Virginia fund.

The Alumni Board of Trustees, established in 1903, is an independent arm of the University of Virginia Alumni Association. The Alumni Board of Trustees accepts gifts on behalf of the University of Virginia, manages the investment of those gifts and distributes the income according to the wishes of the donor/Board. It is not a membership organization and does not campaign for funds.

The University of Virginia Health Services Foundation, a private, non-profit organization, provides services such as billing and collecting accounts for physician charges, establishing technical and ambulatory surgery facility fees; paying a portion of clinical faculty salaries; and administering related faculty benefit programs. The Foundation also provides medical education programs, as well as conducts programs of public charity. The Foundation has several subsidiaries, such as Virginia Ambulatory Surgery, Inc., the Virginia Kidney Stone Foundation, and the University Radiology Development Corporation. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) was formed in association with the University of Virginia. OLLI takes its name from Thomas Jefferson's own deeply-held belief in, and practice of, education as a lifelong enterprise which invigorates the mind and enriches life. OLLI brings together people of diverse backgrounds who share a common interest in continuing intellectual activity. We're a volunteer organization supported entirely by modest membership fees.

The University of Virginia Foundation supports the University of Virginia in its efforts to maintain the distinction of being one of the top public universities in the nation by providing innovative, yet prudent, management of financial and real estate assets on behalf of the University. 

Specifically, the Foundation uses and administers gifts, grants, and bequests for the benefit of the University; provides administrative and financial services to University entities, University-related foundations, or other entities involved in activities that support the University; and engages in matters pertaining to real property for the benefit of the University, such as:

  • Purchasing and managing properties;
  • Developing and managing properties like the University of Virginia Research Parks and Morven Farms; and
  • Managing subsidiaries of the foundation, which include the Historic Renovation Corporation, a company providing property management services on behalf of the alumni owners of fraternity/sorority houses; Boar's Head Inn & Birdwood Golf Course, a Four Diamond hotel and conference center, sports club and golf course serving the University's hospitality and conference needs and supporting University athletics programming; and the Cavalier Inn, a Three-Diamond hotel located at the main entrance corridor of the University and serving the University's hospitality and conference needs.

The Foundation is organized as a not-for-profit corporation, receives no tax revenues, and is supported entirely through fee-for-service activities.
