The Alumni Association, established in 1838, provides a range of services to the University and its alumni. The main purposes of the Alumni Association are to aid, strengthen, and expand in every proper and useful way the University of Virginia and its work, and develop, strengthen, and utilize the bonds of interest, sympathy, and affection existing between the University and its alumni and among the alumni themselves. The Alumni Association is also responsible for the maintenance of alumni records; publication of the Alumni News; support of alumni chapters; and administration of the University of Virginia fund.

The University of Virginia Patent Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation that serves to bring UVa technologies to the global marketplace by evaluating, protecting, and licensing intellectual property generated in the course of research at UVa. A leader in academic technology transfer for more than three decades, the Patent Foundation reviews and evaluates nearly 200 inventions per year and has generated approximately $85 million in licensing revenue since its formation in 1978. The Patent Foundation is located on the third floor of the Lewis & Clark building, just off the historic Downtown Mall.
