Grading Homework

Grading Homework

Individual points are not added up on homework from the workbook / lab manual. When students self-correct using an answer key, they MUST indicate corrections and questions using ink in a color different from that used to do the assignment. In other words, it should be clear to the teacher that the student has used the correction key after doing the assignment, even if all of the student's answers are correct.

Copying answers from the answer key is an honor violation.

The homework assigned provides practice immediately following the presentation of new material, or in preparation for the next day's class. Homework done late will still be a useful study tool for the student, but it completely nullifies its role as preparation for class. Therefore, late homework will  always be graded "O."

Homework is given 0-100 points according to these descriptive guidelines:

 Mid "A" (95)

  • Homework is complete and handed in on time.
  • It is easy to see that answer keys were used. Errors were corrected carefully. If no errors were found, it is still clear that the student corrected that section.
  • Homework appears to have been done carefully. There are some errors, but not too many.
  • Student has written questions to the teacher where s/he did not understand why an answer was incorrect.

 Mid "B" (85)

  • All of the above, but one of the sections is weak.

 Mid "C" (75)

  • Quantity of errors suggests that the student rushed throughout the homework , did not understand it, or did not use the textbook and class notes as reference.

 Mid "D" (65)

  • Homework is incomplete and/or does not show that the student took time, used the textbook, understood the lesson.

 Zero (0)

  • Homework is late or not turned in at all.
  • One or more answers were copied directly from the answer key
