Tuesday, August 18 - New Cabell 332
9:00-9:30 Welcome, Introductions, and Overview of the Orientation/Workshop (Karen James, Professor, Language Program Director, French Dept.)
9:30-10:30 Foreign Language Study Today (Presenter: Marva Barnett, Professor of French & Director of the Teaching Resource Center)
10:30-11:00 Break
11:00-12:00 An Overview of FREN 1010-2320: Goals and Organization of the Courses; Textbooks (Karen James)*
12:00- 2:30 Lunch Break: A light lunch is available in 329 Cabell Hall
2:30-3:30 The First Day of Class (Demonstrations by PhD candidates, Sherri Rose and Nick Shangler)
3:30-4:15 The Lesson Plan and the Warm Up**. (Nick Shangler)
4:15-5:00 Teaching Grammar: Presentation and Practice (Demonstration by Ph.D. candidate, Danielle Carlotti-Smith)
*Homework: Read the Preface and any “To The Teacher” and “To the Student” information in the textbook(s) you will be using.
**Homework; Prepare to peer-teach a 2-4 minute warm-up for Thursday.

2:45-3:45 Culture and the Foreign Language Class (Presenter: Larkin Murphy, PhD candidate)
4:00-5:00 Teaching Vocabulaary: Presentation and Practice (Demonstration by Ph.D. candidate, Gayle Jones)
* Homework: Prepare to peer-teach a 10-minute grammar or vocabulary lesson for Friday. Focus primarily on your interactive presentation. You will not be able to do a full presentation and practice sequence in 10 minutes. Select a grammar point from the textbook you will be using.
