Worldwide Work and Study Abroad Programs:

** www.cie.uci.edu/~cie/iop/.  Univ. of California-Irvine, concept by Ruth Sylte.  Directories of study, work, research abroad opportunities with links.  Very comprehensive.

** www.cie.uci.edu/~cie/world.  "The World at Your Fingertips," by Ruth Sylte.  Not a directory, but an instructional site -- how to use the Internet to research options.

* www.embassy.org. The Electronic Embassy (see also www.embpage.org, The Embassy Page). These sites collect the home pages of the embassies of all countries -- many with info about visas, cultural exchanges, etc.

** www.istc.umn.edu.  Univ. of Minnesota ISTC, concept by Richard Warzecha.  Searchable directories of study abroad, internships and scholarships.  Ann Halpin's volunteer abroad directory.  Excellent search engine.

** www.iie.org. Institute of International Education.  complete info about all Fulbright programs for study and teaching abroad.  Also has IIE directories of study abroad and scholarships on-line; full texts available to IIE members only, with password provided by IIE (or works okay with books in hand).  Use search terms "internships," "volunteer," etc.

www.miusa.org.  Mobility International's guide to education and travel abroad for people with disabilities.

* www.studyabroad.com/exp.html.  Studyabroad.com is a commercial directory of study and work abroad programs.

** www.transitionsabroad.com. Goldmine of directories and first-hand reports on study and work abroad from Transitions Abroad magazine.

** www.umich.edu/~icenter/overseas. Univ. of Michigan International Center, William Nolting.  Detailed, up-to-date articles (many published in Transitions Abroad) with links about internships, short-term paid work abroad, teaching, volunteering and more, developed for and by Univ. of Michigan students.

* www.gwjapan.org/html/xjeo.html. Gateway Japan's list of organizations providing study and work opportunities in Japan.

** www.israelexperience.org, or www.usd.org or www.wzo.org.il.  The Complete Guide to the Israel Experience, a comprehensive directory of study and work opportunities by the World Zionist Organization.

* www.pitt.edu/~clas.  Univ. of Pittsburg Center for Latin American Studies.  Click on "External Financial Assistance" for a directory of internships and scholarships.

** www.sas.upenn.edu/African_Studies/AS.html. African Studies, Univ. of Pennsylvania.  Huge number of links.  Try search using "internships" or "volunteer abroad."

** solar.rtd.utk.edu/~ccsi/jobs/home.htm.  Center for Civil Society, Univ. of Washington.  Best web site for jobs in this region.

** www.bunac.org.uk.  BUNAC, the largest program for students to work in Britain.

** www.ciee.org Council Work Abroad, one of the largest student work abroad programs, and Council International Volunteer Projects.

* www.interexchange.org. InterExchange, a nonprofit work-placement organization with low fees for students and non-students.
 

International Internships

** www.ifeparis.org/.  Internships in Francophone Europe.

** www.aipt.org. AIPT/IAESTE, nonprofit with internships (especially technical, hotel, and culinary) in 65+ countries, can also assist with work permits for jobs abroad found by students and graduates.  Site is less than easy to use.

* www.cdsintl.org.  CDS offers paid internships for students, graduates and professionals in Germany.

* members.aol.com/ICEMenlo. International Cooperative Education program offers 450 paid summer internships for students, mostly in Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, and Japan.

* www.state.gov/www/careers/index.html. U.S. State Dept. offers 1,000 internships annually (students who are U.S. citizens); information and application.

www.us.aiesec.org.  AIESEC, a worldwide student internship program for those interested in business; however, participation possible only through chapters based at universities.
 

Teaching Abroad

** www.jet.org. Japan Exchange and Teaching Program, administered by the Japanese government, the largest program for English teaching (and some positions for Japanese speakers) in Japan.  Also * JET-L (a listserv discussion group): send message "sub JET-L, yourfirstname yourlastname" to listserv@listserv.arizona.edu.  Very interesting discussions by former and prospective participants in the JET program.

* www.eslcafe.com. Dave's ESL Cafe, general English teaching information and jobs.

* www.iss.edu. International Schools Services (K-12), schools directory and job fairs for K-12 teachers for English-language overseas.

* www.ohayosensei.com. O-Hayo Sensei, listings of ESL jobs in Japan.

** www.state.gov. U.S. State Department's excellent site for teaching abroad most for qualified teachers), located in the "Services" section, "Overseas Schools."

* www.tesol.edu. TESOL, largest U.S. association for professional teachers of ESL.
 

Volunteering Abroad

* PCORPS-L (a listserv discussion group), send message "sub PCORPS-L, yourfirstname yourlastname" to listserv@cmuvm.csv.cmich.edu. Discussions by former and prospective Peace Corps volunteers, of interest to anyone interested in working in developing countries.  Unofficial discussion group.

* www.interaction.org. Interaction is a clearinghouse for major international development and relief organizations.

** www.peacecorps.gov. Peace Corps oficial web site, with information on how to apply to the program that sends the most Americans to work in developing countries.

* www.vfp.org. Volunteers for Peace site, with extensive links to other international volunteer organizations.

* www2.ari.net/home3/cnvs. Response, the comprehensive directory to Catholic overseas volunteer organizations.
 

International Careers

* www.impactpublications.com.  Impact Publications has the most complete catalog of books about international careers.

** www.etown.edu/vl/index.html.  International Affairs Web contains info about U.S. graduate degree programs in international relations.

* thisweek.chronicle.comChronicle of Higher Education.  For academics, the Chronicle is the best source of job listings.
