To address traffic safety concerns on Chancellor Street, City of Charlottesville staff has studied the area and will modify the traffic circulation. The portion of Chancellor Street between Madison Lane and Rugby Road that currently allows for vehicular travel in two directions will be changed to permit one-way travel only in the eastbound direction. In addition to restricting this portion of Chancellor Street to one-way vehicular travel in the eastbound direction an edgeline will be added to the street designating an area for pedestrians and bicyclists to travel separate from vehicles.
This change will take place the week of August 9th. City staff will continue to monitor traffic conditions over the coming year and assess whether additional changes are necessary.
