As we prepare for Hurricane Sandy, we wanted to provide a few updates and reminders that are specific to fraternities and sororities. Please see below and share this information with chapter members:
Emergency Information Posted on UVA Homepage. Please note that emergency information, including details on any closings, will be posted at http://www.virginia.edu. This is your best, most accurate source for University-related messages as it pertains to the weather in our area.
House Corporation/Management Information. If you have not done so already, please record the contact information for your house corporation president and/or management company. In the event that your chapter facility sustains damage, please be in good contact with these representatives.
Contact FSL to Report Facility Damages or Issues. Our staff is available to help and assist as best we can. If there are major facility or safety issues (ie – a tree falls on the house), please do not hesitate to contact us as we can work with you to identify appropriate next steps such as alternate housing. (In cases such as a power outage, it will be best to report an outage to the electric company and house corporation.)

A lecture featuring Chong Kim about her personal experiences with child exploitation and sex trafficking. Chong Kim is an Asian-American survivor of human trafficking and child sex exploitation. Now, she actively spends her time reaching out to the public to educate them about Human Rights issues and child sex trafficking.
Speaker Series: Part 2 - Claire Raymond: ”Vigils: Afterimages of Violence Against Native Women”

Claire Raymond will address the works of art created to memorialize women who were killed by gender based violence. Ms. Raymond is a professor from Studies in Women and Gender at UVA.

Every year in October, alpha Kappa Delta Phi Sorority Inc. supports and publicizes this National Breast Cancer Awareness Month heavily through tabling on-grounds as well as hosting the annual Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) Benefit Concert. This concert is not only a way to get hundreds of people together for a great performance, but also to relay important information and statistics about breast cancer and to educate the University and our community what everyone can do to help promote early detection and find the cure. All proceeds from tabling on-grounds as well as from the concert go toward our donation to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade.

Appeared on America’s Best Dance Crew, this professional hip hop team from Houston, Texas is a group of young dancers who are passionate about dancing, teaching and performing. They have competed at Hip Hop Internationals 2010 and World of Dance Dallas 2010 and this is their first time coming to UVA to perform!

At their national convention in Houston, Texas a Lambda Phi Epsilon member was recognized for winning the Academic Excellence scholarship. Congratulations go out to Michael Kim for his exemplary work. The scholarship is given out to recognize brothers who demonstrate the highest standards of academic achievement and serve as a helping hand for others.
Alpha Phi won the “Excellence in Sisterhood” award at their National Convention this summer, selected from over 150 chapters! Sisterhood is one of Alpha Phi’s six foundational ideals. The “Excellence in Sisterhood” award is given to the Alpha Phi chapter that best promotes a genuine sense of friendship and unity among its members. This chapter is engaged in a wide array of campus activities, plans successful programming events for its members, and is exceptional at transitioning all new members into the Alpha Phi sisterhood.
Chi Omega received the “Award of Achievement” at their National Convention in Phoenix this summer. The Award of Achievement is awarded to Chi Omega chapters who excel when evaluated against the following standards: scholarship, membership, initiation, administrative, community service/campus activities, and highest standards of personnel/hospitality.
Gamma Phi Beta also won an award at their summer convention. They won the “Most Improved Public Relations 2012” award. Congratulations!
