1. Topic - Election Committee Report:

Doug gave the Election Committee's report for Elizabeth Fortune. The Committee is working on the Call for Nominations that will go out to general faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences to fill the current vacancy. The Council discussed election procedures and affirmed by unanimous vote, with one abstention, that nominations would be solicited for all elections in accordance with the ByLaws. As in last year's elections, candidates will be asked to submit a brief platform statement that will accompany the ballot.

2.Topic - Report from the Policy Working Group:

The original 9 member Task Force working on the revisions to the "Policy on the General Faculty" has coalesced down to a group of 5; including 4 Council members - Doug, Mary, Joyce, Rob and Suzanne Louis from the WFPA. The Group has completed their first comprehensive review of Provost Low's revised draft. Suzanne led the Council members through the document point by point. In this first review, the group decided what should stay and what needed more work and clarification. Once the details have been hammered out on amplifying or clarifying the existing text; the group will enter the second phase of looking at issues that should be included, but do not currently appear in the document at all. The group still hopes to have a draft version ready for general faculty review by early January.

3. Topic - January WFPA Forum:

The General Faculty Committee of the WFPA will be hosting their "4th Annual Forum on the General Faculty" on January 20th in the Cavalier Room in Newcomb Hall at 12:00 Noon. All persons interested in general faculty issues especially members of the general faculty are invited to the Forum. Guests invited to the Forum include Provosts Peter Low and Robert Cantrell, Executive Vice President Leonard Sandridge, and members of the General Faculty Council. Guests will respond to questions and participate in a discussion of general faculty issues.

4. Topic - Next Meeting: The Council's next meeting will be Tuesday, January 13th from 12:30 P.M. - 2:00 P.M. in Room 389.
