German Express

GERM 2050 is designed with the motivated student in mind.  It is an accelerated course which covers the essential materials of GERM 2010 and GERM 2020 in one semester.  The class will meet 5 days per week for 4 credits.  Successful completion of GERM 2050 means completion of the language requirement.

The goal of GERM 2050 is to prepare you to spend spring semester 2010 in Jena, Germany, at the Friedrich Schiller Universität.  There, you can earn 12 credits toward graduation at UVA, taking a selection of pre-approved courses.

Thanks to the generosity of a former UVA student and German major, the German department is able to offer a $5,000 travel stipend, the Anke Ohanian Reisestipendium, to the top candidate for Jena.  In addition, the University in Jena is offering five travel stipends of $1,000 each on a competitive basis.

Needless to say, the German department hopes that the experience on "German Express to Jena" will inspire you to commit to German as a major or minor.
