Interests
Dorothe Bach teaches courses on children's and young adult literature. Her past research interests in the field of literature include autobiographical and polemical writings as well as German Jewish literature and culture.
In her role as an Associate Professor and Assistant Director at the Teaching Resource Center, Dorothe directs the Excellence in Diversity Fellows Program, a nationally recognized early-career faculty Development Program. She also presents and organizes workshops, consults individually with faculty and TAs about their teaching, and undertakes a variety of other tasks designed to enhance teaching and faculty development at the University of Virginia.
Research interests linked to her work as a faculty developer concern a variety of early and mid-career faculty issues including diverse faculty retention, work life satisfaction, interdisciplinary scholarship, and dual career couples. Specific pedagogical interests include contemplative pedagogy, learning portfolios, interdisciplinary learning, community engagement and service learning, as well as intercultural learning.
