Rose Beauchamp’s task in 2006 was to blaze a trail as director of the newly formed Dance Program in the drama department. “I came to U.Va. in 2006, and it has been amazing,” Ms. Beauchamp said. “Dance is definitely something that has been overlooked, and there are tons of students who are thrilled that there is a program.”
Bruce Boucher became director of the University of Virginia Art Museum on March 1st. Mr. Boucher, formerly curator of European sculpture at the Art Institute of Chicago, was introduced to the University community in the museum on January 29, 2009.

Veteran film festival director, filmmaker and actor Jody Kielbasa has joined the University of Virginia’s College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences as the new director of the Virginia Film Festival.
The mythology of the South as a place of gentility and refinement is still held by many today, according to Maurie McInnis, associate professor of American art and material culture and director of American studies. Ms. McInnis cites as an example the naming of residential communities such as “Plantation Lake,” which are prevalent from the Carolinas to Florida.
