From the President
The success of the Campaign for the University of Virginia is an extraordinary accomplishment. Without the loyalty, dedication and perseverance of our many alumni, parents and friends, we could not have surpassed the $3 billion campaign goal, reaching $3.05 billion as of June 30, 2013.
This campaign has transformed U.Va. in profound and lasting ways. The transformation has changed our environment with wonderful new facilities for teaching, researching, performing and playing, and with new facilities for treating and healing patients. The transformation has created new opportunities for our students — more chances to pursue scholarship and research, more ways to learn new technologies, more experiences abroad and in the community, more exposure to the arts and more involvement in the process of human discovery.
The campaign provided support for scholarships, fellowships, professorships, interdisciplinary centers and research initiatives. Donors directed generous gifts to establish funds that benefit faculty and students who conduct innovative research and scholarship. Alumni created endowments for athletics programs and state-of-the-art facilities. Benefactors of all kinds helped advance leading-edge research and the search for new medical treatments.
When announced, this campaign was one of the most ambitious in higher education. From its beginning in the fall of 2006 under former President John T. Casteen III, your commitment to the University’s future — often in the face of considerable economic adversity — never wavered. This support will sustain the University for future generations.
For everything you have done to make this campaign a success, I am deeply grateful. You can learn more about the University’s transformation in this final campaign newsletter. I hope you are as inspired as I am by these stories of the campaign’s profound impact across the Grounds.
