Institute for Faculty Advancement (IFA)
The IFA will recruit the best faculty candidates; support, develop and retain faculty; cultivate diverse leaders from faculty ranks; and develop a University-wide faculty leadership program. Read more about the IFA and its programs.
Getting Started @ U.Va.
Faculty members early in their careers receive support through workshops and opportunities to work and network with University community members across the Grounds.
Leadership in Academic Matters (LAM)
LAM is an intensive program to support, reward, and build networks amongst faculty members with demonstrated leadership characteristics and potential. Nominated faculty attend weekly half-day sessions conducted over the course of several months and led by experts in academic leadership.
Support and Resources for Academic Leaders
LAM alumni, department chairs, and other leaders are invited to select workshops and opportunities to build social networks and sharpen leadership skills. Topics are chosen based on stated needs, institutional priorities and growth opportunities, as well as national research on best practices.
Transitions and Changes
The IFA, with the School of Medicine, offers a series of small-group-facilitated dialogue to encourage active engagement with change and transitions and to identify resources available to manage the process of change.
Faculty Mentoring Initiative
The Faculty Mentoring Initiative is a new pilot program to support junior faculty by connecting them to mentors outside of their departments.
The Women’s Work monthly series brings women together from across the Grounds to share research and interests.
