John Paul Jones Arena

The John Paul Jones Arena enables the University to attract top basketball talent and to improve the overall quality of services provided to all student-athletes. A multi-purpose facility with 15,000 seats, construction on the arena was completed in the summer of 2006.

For the men’s and women’s basketball programs, the John Paul Jones Arena is an inspiring place to train, with superb practice courts, locker rooms, and weight and training rooms. The arena also houses a dining hall and an academic affairs center, both of which are available to all student-athletes. For spectators, the arena offers a sense of intimacy, created by minimizing the distance between fans and players.

In addition to housing basketball competitions, the John Paul Jones Arena provides an attractive setting for community events, including concerts, family shows, and conventions. A parking structure for 900 cars and a large public plaza help make the arena accessible to the community. The project is named for John Paul Jones (Law ’48), the father of the arena’s lead benefactor, Paul Tudor Jones II (College ’76). Virtually all of the funding for the arena came from private sources.
