Co-Captain - 1966 Cross Country Team
In 1968, co-founded with classmate Ed Hardy (SEAS '69), a committee of renown track alumni which subsequently caused the funding and construction of a new track facility at the University to replace the 66 year old Lambeth Field. The new Lannighan Track was dedicated in April 1971.
1998-2001 - Member – Department of Civil Engineering Advisory Committee
2001-2005 - Member – SEAS Dean's Advisory Committee
2005-2012 - Trustee – SEAS / Virginia Engineering Foundation; President 2010-12.
Current - SEAS Representative on the University's Council of Foundations

Industry
1968 – 1994 - A corporate officer with P&L accountability in several construction and engineered product based companies to include modular buildings, nuclear power plant design and heavy steel design, fabrication and erections.
1994 – 2010 - Returned to Charlottesville to join Faulconer Construction Company, a site work / road building contractor, as Executive Vice President. During this period became involved in many noteworthy new construction efforts at the University to include:
- New Darden Business School, 1994-96, 2001-02
- Law School Renovation, 1995-97
- Scott Stadium Renovation, 1999-01
- New John Paul Jones Arena, 2003-06
- New MR-6 Medical Research Building, 2006-07
- New South Lawn Project, 2008-11
