James R. Socas

James Socas lives in McLean, Virginia with his wife and three sons. He is a general partner at Updata Partners, a technology growth equity firm, and co-manages the firm's Washington, DC headquarters. In this capacity, he serves as board member or chairman of several private technology companies in the U.S. and Europe. James previously served on the global leadership team at Symantec as head of corporate development. Prior to Symantec, James was a managing director at Credit Suisse First Boston and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, focused on technology investment banking. He has worked with many of the leading software and technology companies on M&A, initial public offerings, capital raising and restructuring. James currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Potomac School and the Board of Managers of the Alumni Association of UVA. He previously was appointed to serve on Virginia's Board of Corrections for five years. James graduated from UVA with a BA in History and also has an MBA from Harvard.
