Mark joined the Gift Planning Staff at the University of Virginia in September 2000, becoming Director in August 2001. He has extensive experience in working closely with individuals who wish to establish mutually beneficial charitable gifts with maximum tax advantages.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Winthrop University and an MBA degree from Nova Southeastern University. Mark has been a member of the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning (PPP) since 1997. He was a founding member of the Central Virginia Planned Giving Council, serving two terms as president. He is a member of the Central Virginia Estate Planning Council and of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Currently, Mark serves on the Board of Hospice of the Piedmont and the BNY Mellon Client Advisory Council for Charitable Gift Services.

Jason Chestnutt

Jason joined the University of Virginia Office of Gift Planning in June 2007. Prior to joining the Gift Planning team, Jason spent eight years as a financial advisor at Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch, both in Atlanta. His experience lies in the area of wealth management with an emphasis on the legal and tax aspects of gift planning. Jason is a native of West Point, VA and a graduate of the University (CLAS ’98).

Since 2008, Jason has served on the UVaClub of Charlottesville Board as Chair of the Service Committee, which promotes volunteerism in the community. He is a founding member of the Host Committee for “Cavaliers Against Cancer,” which raises money to support clinical and translational research fellowships for graduate students in the Human Immune Therapy Center. He also serves as the Program Chair for the Charlottesville Area Planned Giving Council (CAPGC), and he is a member of both the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning (PPP). Jason is currently pursuing his education to sit for the CFP® Certification Examination.

Doug McCartney

Doug joined the University of Virginia Office of Gift Planning in January of 2007, coming from the U.Va. Health System Development Office. Prior to joining the U.Va. development community, he served as Vice President for Development and Foundation Executive Director at Wayne State College in Nebraska. Doug was a gubernatorial appointee and served as Chief Deputy Director of the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. He was Director of Planned Giving and Deputy Executive Director of Major Gifts for a major nonprofit in Virginia Beach. Before entering the field of planned giving, Doug practiced law in Tidewater, Virginia, for 11 years. He is an active member of the Virginia State Bar (VSB), the Central Virginia Estate Planning Council (CVEPC), the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning (PPP), and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). He is a graduate of the O.W. Coburn School of Law (J.D. ’84) and Oral Roberts University, Business Administration and Management (B.S. ’76).

Ashley joined the University of Virginia Office of Gift Planning in February 2008. Having worked as a fundraiser since 2002, she came to the University of Virginia team from the Office of Estate and Gift Planning at the Arizona State University Foundation in Phoenix. A native Virginian and graduate of the University (College ’92), Ashley began her career in banking and financial services. She is a member of the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning (PPP), the Charlottesville Area Estate Planning Group (CAEPG), and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
