University
of Virginia Projects
Among
the current projects at the University of Virginia that will be
affected by the passage of the General Obligation Bond Referendum
are the following:

$24.2 million for MR-6, a new medical science building. The
University and its donors will contribute an additional $25 million
for the facility, which will house some 300 researchers and technicians
working on cancer, immunology, allergies, infectious diseases, and
other health problems. More

$14.3 million for a new Arts & Sciences building. Part
of the $125 million South Lawn Project, the building will house
eight of the College's 26 departments and will contain digitally
equipped classrooms serving the entire University. More

$7 million for a new nanotechnology and materials science and
engineering building. In part with private support, the University
will provide another $25 million for the project, which will foster
advances in electronics, telecommunications, biotechnology, defense
and aerospace technology, and manufacturing. More

$5.7 million for renovation of teaching laboratories in Gilmer
Hall. The heart of the undergraduate biology program, these
labs will be upgraded for the first time since they were built 35
years ago. More

$4.6 million for renovation and expansion of Fayerweather Hall.
Built in the 19th century as a gymnasium, Fayerweather now houses
the McIntire Department of Art and is in dire need of repair. More
