Dear Friends,
As the temperatures start to rise, so does our excitement about the summer to come at Heritage Theatre Festival.
We have our actors in place, along with our directors and designers, for six outstanding shows in a season that will run from
June 25–August 8.
Last year was a great summer for us as we returned from our year of construction-related “darkness” to present a season of plays
and musicals that was dominated by Tony Award and/or Pulitzer Prize-winners. It was so thrilling for us to see so many old friends
once again filling our seats and enjoying our shows.
This year we have put together a season that we hope brings even more friends back into the Heritage family while introducing many more in our community to one of Central Virginia’s most treasured summer theatre traditions.
The 2009 season is packed with familiar, favorite and family-friendly shows. Our musicals include Oliver!,
Little Shop of Horrors and Pump Boys and Dinettes, and our plays will be Moonlight and Magnolias (a fabulous and popular new comedy about the re-writing of the script for Gone With the
Wind), On Golden Pond and Red, White and Tuna (a regional premiere of the latest installment in the wildly
popular Greater Tuna series.)
In addition to these great shows, there are some more exciting changes on tap for this summer:
Pre-Recession Pricing
In light of the current economic times, we are rolling our price range back to the 2006 season in order to make a
night at the theatre (or preferably six nights!) as affordable as it is enjoyable.
“Can’t Miss” Scheduling
We will open one week later and close one week later than last year and return to a rotating rep format for three of our
shows. This means that those who leave Charlottesville in the heavy vacation period of July and return in the first week of August will be able to catch four of our shows in one week!
Click it … and Ticket
We are thrilled to announce our new secure online ticketing system that will make it easier than ever for you to
order your season subscriptions and single-show tickets alike.
I look forward to seeing you in our theatres this summer!
Sincerely,
Robert Chapel
