HERITAGE THEATRE FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR 2013 SEASON
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA- Friday, January 18 - Local auditions for the summer season of shows at the Heritage Theatre Festival will take place on Saturday, February 2 (for adults) and Sunday, February 3 (for children). The shows for which auditions will be held are: Annie Get Your Gun, The Marvelous Wonderettes, and next to normal. Red and Tuna Does Vegas, which will also be produced, have been previously cast. Auditions will take place in the UVA Drama Building on Culbreth Road (home to the Culbreth, Helms, and brand new Ruth Caplin Theatres).
Annie Get Your Gun has roles for 15 men, 10 women, (leads and ensemble) and three young people (two girls ages, 14 and 12, and one boy age 10). Those in the ensemble need to be able to not only sing well but also dance well.
The Marvelous Wonderettes has roles for four women, age 18-28. Being able to sing in close harmony is very important for these roles.
next to normal has roles for 4 men and 2 women. The role of Diana has been previously cast. Dan (30’s-40’s), Gabe (18-20), Henry (17-19), Natalie (16-17), Dr. Fine/Dr. Madden (late 20’s-early 40’s). All need to be strong singers with a large range and be able to belt strongly.
February 2 auditions: Five minute slots beginning at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those being considered for ensemble, as well as the roles of Winnie (age 17-18) and Tommy (age 18-22) should also attend the dance audition from 5-6 p.m. that day. Everyone should bring a 1-2 minute contemporary monologue and 32 bars of music to sing. Please bring your music with you. An accompanist will be provided. If you want to be considered for one of the leading roles in either Annie Get Your Gun or next to normal, you may sing a song from one of those shows.
February 3 auditions: Five minute slots beginning at 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Young people only for the roles of Annie Oakley’s siblings (two girls ages, 14 and 12, and one boy age 10). Please bring a 32 bar song to sing. Please bring your sheet music, an accompanist will be provided. You may be asked to read from the script.
