Timeline Project

The Timeline Project is a collection of “ICT Moments” cataloged by the students of HIUS 3559.  Each student is asked to consider four moments in their lives where information or communication technology played a memorable or transformative role.  They must then interview someone born before 1959 (over 50 years old) and ask for four ICT Moments in their lives.  After collecting this information, students should then write expanded descriptions of each of these eight moments providing relevant citations, images and other embedded media, and plotting the moment on the timeline below.  For each entry, students must explain why this moment was memorable, describe how the particular technology mentioned has evolved over time, and place each specific ICT Moment in its proper historical context (i.e. what other social and cultural forces shaped and/or were shaped by the technology?).

The intent of the Project is to demonstrate the impact of technology in the lives of all Americans over the past fifty years, but especially its sweeping influence on the lives of students and those close to them.  To this end, Professor Balogh’s concluding lecture of the semester will be based on the timeline created by the class.  He asks that you not make him look unprepared!
