This seminar explores the relationship between the individual and society in the writings of major philosophical and political thinkers in early Chinese history. Four streams of thought, Confucianism, Daoism, Moism, and Legalism, will be considered. Course requirements include active participation in class discussion and a 20-25 page research paper.
