Interests:

I am currently working on a project exploring the disjunction between what colonial French officials thought of their empire in the 18th century and the way that empire actually functioned.  Through a specific focus on the Mississippi River Valley, I am explaining part of the structure and function of the French Atlantic Empire.  In general, I am interested in the 17th and 18th century colonial empires in North America, their interaction with one another and with American Indians, and the early national period in the United States, often with a particular look at the transitions taking place in frontier areas.
