Incoming First Year Students

Upperclass, Transfer and Graduate Students

The University of Virginia is in the process of replacing a number of residence halls in the Alderman Road Residence Area. As a result, access to certain halls in the complex and parking space for Opening is more limited than normal. To accommodate these restrictions,

Fall Semester Opening for First Year students will occur over two days:
Friday, August 19, 2011, 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Saturday, August 20, 2011, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

The check-in date for First Year students is dependent on your room assignment. Please make your plans to move into your on-Grounds housing assignment on the date that your building will be opening.

Unless approved for an early arrival, all students in upperclass housing may move in on or after Saturday, August 20th.

Fall Semester Opening for Upperclass students begins on:
Saturday, August 20, 2011, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Upperclass, Transfer and Graduate Students who wish to be considered for early check-in and are not part of a University group requiring their presence on Grounds before Opening Day need to submit an Early Arrival Application and pay the appropriate per-night charge. If your building is not available on the date when you need to move in, temporary housing may be available.
