Shea House
The Shea House provides approximately 75 students with
a unique opportunity to live in an environment of total
language immersion. Located on Jefferson Park Avenue,
Shea House serves as the cultural and linguistic
center at U.Va. for Italian
and for eight of the most widely spoken languages of Asia
and the Middle East:
Arabic,
Chinese,
Hebrew,
Hindi and Urdu,
Japanese,
Korean, and
Persian.
Each year there are a number of cultural events put on at the Shea House in collaboration with faculty from the language departments. Whether joking with friends, sharing meals, or discussing films or politics, students living at the Shea House will have one of the finest opportunities available at a North American university to deepen their experience of these vital languages and cultures.
Applications and other information are available from the Shea House website. Note: Living in a language house requires participation in a meal plan. Please contact the language department or Dining Services for more information.
