Residential Colleges at the University of Virginia
Dynamic faculty-student interaction. Amazing leadership opportunities. Great food. A strong sense of belonging / A place to call your own / A home away from home. These are among the benefits students extol when describing their experience living in residential colleges.
Residential colleges offer:
- a strong sense of community
- common dining (both formal and informal)
- regular interaction with faculty members outside of the classroom
- a mix of all four class years
- exciting and diverse academic, social and service activities
- all the amenities and convenience of living on-Grounds
Each of U.Va.'s three residential colleges – Brown College, Hereford College, and the International Residential College – has Principals in residence, Faculty Fellows, and strong student governance. Each offers fun and interesting programs that range from an environmental writers lecture series to international service trips over Spring Break to regular movie nights.
If sustainability, globalization, or interdisciplinary studies interest you, the residential colleges might be the right place for you to live next year. Service, too, is part of each community, with annual programs like Brown's Hauntings and Hereford's 5K, which raise money for local charities.
Each residential college has its own unique identity, culture and benefits. We encourage you to visit their websites for full information on the community, activities and leadership opportunities available to you in this vibrant system.
