On November 8, 2011, the University of Virginia’s College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences introduced the Institute of the Humanities & Global Cultures. This opening event, held in the Rotunda Dome Room, included Meredith Jung-En Woo (Buckner W. Clay Dean of Arts & Sciences), Cristina Della Coletta (Associate Dean for the Humanities and the Arts), Bruce Holsinger (Professor of English and Music), and Michael Levenson (William B. Christian Professor of English and Director of the Institute of the Humanities & Global Cultures).
The event also featured a panel discussion entitled, “Humanities Education: Conditions and Prospects” featuring Maurie McInnis (Associate Dean for Undergraduate Academic Programs), Ricardo Padrón (Associate Professor of Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese), and John Parker (Associate Professor of English).
