Eligibility
Student Identification Card
A University of Virginia Student eligible for a University ID card is an individual who is enrolled in a degree program or a summer session program. There is no fee charged for the initial ID card. The privileges associated with the card depend upon the amount of tuition and fees paid by the student.
Students in the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing who need access to medical facilities are provided a U.Va. Health System identification badge by the U.Va. Health System Technical Services. Call 434-982-4009 for more information. (An Academic ID isn't necessary if a Hospital ID badge is issued.)
All ID cards are the property of the University of Virginia and are provided for appropriate use for identification and access to services. The card is not transferable and is valid as long as the holder continues his/her specific affiliation with the University of Virginia. Any misuse, alteration or fabrication of the card will subject the holder to disciplinary action by the University.
Please remember to bring your valid government issued picture identification card (either your U.S. Driver’s License issued by DMV, U.S. Identification Card issued by DMV, U.S. Permanent Resident/U.S. Department of Homeland Security/U.S. Green Card, Passport or U.S. Military ID card) to obtain your ID.
Faculty and Staff Identification Card
Full-time and Part-time Faculty and Staff receiving benefits at the University are entitled to receive a faculty/staff identification card. There is no fee charged for the initial ID card. Faculty/Staff ID Card Application Form. (Also available in office.)
Wage Employees (faculty wage, adjunct faculty, part-time classified without benefits, post-doc, and wage); and Visiting Faculty and Staff (research assistants, visiting research assistants, visiting scholars and ROTC) may receive a University ID card with departmental or Human Resources written authorization and justification as to the need for an ID card. An expiration date is required and will be printed on the ID card. There will be a $10 fee charged for the ID card. See additional requirements. Faculty/Staff ID Card Application Form. Contracted employees working at the University may receive a University Contractor ID card with the UVA sponsoring departmental's written authorization and justification as to the need for an ID card. An expiration date is required and will be printed on the ID card. There is a $15 fee charged for contracted employee ID cards. Contracted Employee ID Card Application Form. All ID cards are the property of the University of Virginia and are provided for appropriate use for identification and access to services. The card is not transferable and is valid as long as the holder continues his/her specific affiliation with the University of Virginia. Cards issued to employees and individuals affiliated with the University of Virginia must be returned to the appropriate department upon separation (except upon retirement.)

Call the ID Card Office (434-924-4508) to be sure all the information necessary to obtain an ID card is received by the ID Card Office. It can take approximately 24 - 48 hours.
Participants in Special Programs
A Participant in a Special Program eligible for a University ID card must be sponsored by a University department. The sponsoring department will provide the ID Card Office with a list of the participant(s) as well as written authorization and justification as to the need for an ID card. If eligible, the participant may receive a special University ID card. An expiration date is required and will be printed on the ID card. There will be a $10 fee charged for the ID card.
All ID cards are the property of the University of Virginia and are provided for appropriate use for identification and access to services. The card is not transferable and is valid as long as the holder continues his/her specific affiliation with the University of Virginia. Cards issued to persons participating in special programs sponsored by the University must be returned to the sponsoring department upon completion of the program.
U.Va. Health System Employees
Health System Employees who are required to wear a U.Va. Health System ID Badge will need to obtain one from the U.Va. Health System Technical Services, which is located in room M-4 of the West Complex (old hospital). Call 434-982-4009 for more information.
