The Objectives of the Arabian Peninsula & Gulf Studies Program
Encourage advanced study of Peninsula & Gulf nations and societies and their external relationships
Facilitate the development of relationships and cooperation between the University and academic and other appropriate institutions in the region, including the exchange of scholars, students and others
Address the practical questions and issues of security and development confronting the region, drawing upon expertice as diverse as the law, medicine, environmental sciences, or commerce
Establish the University of Virginia as a major canter for study and research on the Peninsula & Gulf perspectives of relevant issues, and collect in Charlottesville primary and published materials on the region
Sponsor conferences, seminars, and lectures in the United States and abroad to facilitate the exchange of views and ideas among scholars, officials, and businessmen on general and specialized subjects of shared concern
Conduct sponsored research
Promote the publication of the authoritative studies on the region and its relationship with the United States and the world
Serve as a resource for media, firms, and others in the United States interested in the accurate, balanced information about the region
