Memorial Gymnasium Pool
Closed Permanently eff: May 2
After 80+ years of serving the University
community, The Memorial Gymnasium Pool closed permanently
effective May 2, 2007. Part
of the original
construction of Memorial Gymnasium, the pool's basic systems
are extremely
outdated and are not "resource friendly". After careful
consideration of
declining pool use, cost analysis and review of the mechanical systems
and
utility use, the IM-Rec Sports department will convert the existing
space to
a multi-purpose area with "Sport Court" flooring and dasher
boards. This
conversion project, when completed by the fall 2007 semester, will
enable us
to provide increased opportunities for indoor soccer, floor hockey,
fencing
and many other options in support of intramural, club, instructional
and
open recreation groups.
Many thanks to the loyal MEM Gym Pool swimmers for your years of
patronage.
We hope you¹ll continue to swim with us at the Aquatic & Fitness
Center Pool,
where we offer more than sixty hours of open
recreation lap swimming. |
