The North Grounds Recreation Center will be CLOSED for the summer 2013 semester to accommodate the renovations and expansion project. During this time we’ll be upgrading the fitness room with new cardio and resistance training machines, flooring and glass back walls for the racquetball courts. Construction will continue on the new 10-lane swimming pool, additional multi-purpose space and two competition-size international squash courts. Squash and racquetball courts are available for members this summer at Slaughter Recreation Center as well as the new Boars Head McArthur Squash Center, opening this spring. We appreciate your patience and flexibility during the construction and renovation process. We’ll keep you informed regarding an opening date this fall of the newly renovated North Grounds Recreation Center!

A recent IM-Rec Sports Project Planning and Formulation Study identified additional aquatics space as a primary unmet demand at the University. The North Grounds Recreation Center Expansion will result in a 33,000 square feet addition that will include a 25 meter x 25 yard 10 lane pool ranging in depth from 3 1/2 feet to 7 feet, whirlpool, sauna, fitness room, "wet" classroom adjacent to the pool deck for aquatic related instructional classes and programs, international singles squash courts and locker rooms. Renovations planned include improvements to existing racquetball courts and increased fitness space. The project is underway with a tentative completion in fall 2013.
