The North Grounds Recreation Center will be CLOSED for the summer 2013 semester beginning June 10 to accommodate the renovation and expansion project. This summer, members can play squash and racquetball at Slaughter Recreation Center or squash at the new UVA McArthur Squash Center at the Boar's Head Sports Club. We appreciate your patience and flexibility during the construction and renovation process. We’ll keep you informed regarding an opening date this fall of the newly renovated North Grounds Recreation Center!

A recent IM-Rec Sports Project Planning and Formulation Study identified additional aquatics space as a primary unmet demand at the University. The North Grounds Recreation Center Expansion will result in a 33,000 square feet addition that will include a 25 meter x 25 yard 10 lane pool ranging in depth from 3 1/2 feet to 7 feet, whirlpool, sauna, additional multi-purpose room, "wet" classroom adjacent to the pool deck for aquatic related instructional classes and programs, international size squash courts and locker rooms. Renovations planned include increased fitness space, new flooring, installation of glass back walls for the racquetball courts, and completing the neccessary mechanical connections to the expansion spaces.
The project is underway with a tentative completion in fall 2013.
