This class actively combines strength and flexibility into a dynamic workout. The sequence of movements is designed to counter-balance the stresses of sedentary life and promote the practical application of strength and flexibility throughout one’s daily activities. This class will incorporate new moves, musical artists and styles each week to keep you coming back more.
Students are led through part of the primary series of Ashtanga yoga in a group class. Focus on breathing, explanation of the poses with modifications, and gazing point are all introduced. Expect to build up a sweat, while developing strength, flexibility and mindfulness. Offered in partnership with the Contemplative Sciences Center.
Mysore is a style of teaching and practicing Ashtanga Yoga. In the Mysore setting you work through fixed sequences of poses at your own pace and at your own level while relying on the teacher for instruction, guidance, inspiration and physical adjustments. This is for all different levels of students, but especially for those of you who want to take up a regular yoga practice-- 3-6 days a week. Offered in partnership with the Contemplative Sciences Center.
This is a Mysore class (see description above), but exists to serve people brand new to Ashtanga Yoga. When you come for the first time, the teacher will take you through the practice in detail, and give you their full attention until you get used to the practice and the series of poses is memorized. Offered in partnership with the Contemplative Sciences Center.
T'ai Chiis a martial art characterized by soft, slow flowing movements of the torso and arms coordinated with weight shifts and steps. It emphasizes relaxation, and is a form of meditation in motion. The benefits of T’ai Chi include improved balance, muscle tone and stress reduction. Offered in partnership with the Contemplative Sciences Center.
