Personal Fitness Training

Train Like a Star...Work Out With a
Personal Trainer!

Personal Fitness Training is your opportunity to meet one-on-one with a trained fitness professional to develop a fitness program specifically designed to your needs and interests. Let our trainers help you maximize your workout and minimize risk of injury. Learn more about our personal trainers.

Personal Training is available to UVA students & members only. Services include:

  • Comprehensive fitness assessment
  • Private fitness consultation
  • One-on-one instruction on weight machines, free weights, cardiovascular equipment, flexibility training & core training.
  • Corrective exercises for muscular or mobility imbalances.

 

Training Options

Each training session is 1 hour in length.

1. "Intro To Fitness"

Ideal package for those who only need a fitness assessment and instruction to get started, this package offers:

  • Fitness assessment & consultation to develop a custom fitness program
  • Two 1-hour training sessions

2. Multiple Sessions

Extremely beneficial for those who prefer ongoing personal instruction, motivation, and support. Our 3, 5, or 10 session packages offer:

  • A custom fitness program
  • Continued adjustment to your exercise program as your fitness level increases
  • Education and instruction
  • One-on-one support & encouragement of long-term habits & lifestyle changes

Also Available: Single-Session Training, $30.
Note: Fitness assessment is not included, and is a pre-requisite to this option.

3. Fitness Assessment Only

Meet privately with a fitness specialist to determine your current fitness level and discuss methods for improvement. One-hour fitness assessment includes screening of:

  • Blood pressure
  • Body composition
  • Cardiovascular endurance
  • Flexibility
  • Muscular endurance
  • Joint mobility & stability
  • Information packet full of current exercise-related information

4. Facility Equipment Orientation Only

Let one of our specialists personally train you to use our state-of-the-art weight, fitness, and cardiovascular machines. With proper instruction, you will be able to maximize your workout routine and minimize your risk of personal injury.

5. Group Training

Train with friends (maximum of 5 individuals per group) for a fun, educational and cost-effective exercise experience.

  • Fitness Assessment ($35; purchased seperately) is required for EACH group member prior to beginning sessions.
  • Sessions must be purchased and conducted as group sessions. We recommend that sessions are scheduled during non-peak hours (Mon-Fri, 6 AM-4 PM, after 7 PM or weekends) when all group members are available.
  • All sessions are 1 hour in duration.

6. Nutrition Evaluation

A well-balanced diet is a critical component of a healthy lifestyle. Through nutrition education sessions, you will learn to use the new Food Guide Pyramid, identify key nutrient sources and understand how to make wise food choices. A Registered Dietician will review your current dietary habits to identify areas for improvement to get you on track with your fitness goals.

7. Specialty Training

Specialty personal training sessions are yoga, pilates or sport-specific. Offered based on instructor availability, which may be limited. Group specialty training is only offered to individuals who have completed a Fitness Assessment and two private sessions. Pricing is the same as for regular training sessions.

Fitness Assessment

 

 

Registration for Personal Training is ongoing at the IM-Rec Sports Business Office, room 209 in the Aquatic & Fitness Center, Mon–Fri, 8:00 AM–5:30 PM. Required registration forms are available online (see below) and need to be submitted, with credit card info., via FAX to 434.924.3858. Once your forms and payment are received, the Fitness Director will assign a Personal Trainer to meet with you. You will be contacted by the trainer to schedule your initial consultation and subsequent workout sessions. Payment is due at the time of registration.
