YOGA: Instructional Classes

in the AFC.

Registration is required
to participate. Classes fill fast; sign-up early!
Multi-Level
Hatha
This summer give yourself the gift of yoga! These classes will explore
the different asanas with the emphasis on function, core strength,
posture and alignment to encourage flexibility, stability, coordination
and balance. We will include holding poses (yin yoga) and flow poses
(vinyasa and sun salutations) as well as a deep relaxation (yoga
nidra)
at the end.

Yoga Fundamentals
Participants will gain a strong foundation in classical hatha yoga by
learning basic yoga poses, breathing techniques, and relaxation.
Building upon this foundation, participants will have the opportunity
to explore other styles of yoga, such as restorative, vinyasa, and
power yoga. This class is recommended for beginners who are interested
in trying various styles of yoga practice.

Intermediate Vinyasa
(Flow) Yoga
This vinyasa (flow) yoga course is designed to take your practice to
the next
level! Participants should have some experience with yoga, be very
comfortable with sun salutations, and have some familiarity with
beginning
inversions (i.e. shoulder-stand). Specific course content will depend
upon
participants’ abilities, but will be designed to challenge students
to
achieve new levels in their practice while working mindfully with the
body.
Emphasis will be placed on proper alignment, breathing, and finding
balance
in the practice of yoga.

Yoga Flexible
Strength I (not currently offered)
This class actively combines strength and flexibility into a dynamic
workout. The sequence of movements is designed to counter-balance
the stresses of sedentary life and promote the practical application
of strength and flexibility throughout one’s daily activities.
Participants will integrate movement, stabilization, balance, coordination,
concentration and relaxation to mold a body that is strong and supple.

Yoga Flexible
Strength II (not currently offered)
Building on the skills learned in Yoga Flexible Strength I, poses are
brought to a more advanced level and classes will progress at a faster
pace. Prior yoga experience is recommended (Yoga Flexible Strength
I is not a prerequisite).

Hatha I (not
currently offered)
Classic Hatha postures combined with sun salutations and ending with
deep relaxation. A well-rounded class to support flexibility and strength
and de-stress the body.

Mat Pilates (not
currently offered)
This class is based on the principles of relaxation, concentration,
alignment, centering, breathing, coordination, slow movement, and stamina
with an emphasis on the quality of exercise and how to use it to correct
and fill ourselves.

YogaBeing (not
currently offered)
YogaBeing is a Hatha yoga class that combines yoga asanas, breathing exercises,
and relaxation techniques for general wellness, balance, strength, endurance,
and flexibility. Participants will work the body in a whole sense (holistic)
using full range of movements. YogaBeing is a balanced workout that can
be done by anyone regardless of age and fitness level and is designed
for those who are new to the practice of yoga or those with experience.
The emphasis is on body awareness, synchronization with the breath, and
releasing of tension.

Yoga
to the Core (not currently offered)
A flow-style yoga class focusing on strengthening core muscles and
increasing body awareness. The class will stretch, strengthen and
stabilize your body. It will be primarily mat-based, but will incorporate
props to assist or challenge when necessary.

Vinyasa Flow (not
currently offered)
This class focuses on strength building and flexibility, while using
breath to mindfully deepen into the postures. We will work through traditional
sun salutations, as well as standing and seated postures, to build focus,
and deepen relaxation. In addition, this class focuses on ideal postural
alignment, in order to find better balance in class and in life.

Meditation (not
currently offered)
Come experience the peace and calm of meditation by being led on different
journeys into yourself. Using the chakra system, we will explore the 7
energy wheels of the body and how, by balancing them, we can achieve a
deep inner sense of self.

Pre-Natal
Yogalates (not currently offered)
Expectant mothers will learn to use yoga and pilates to connect with their own
wisdom, body and growing baby. Benefits include strengthening pelvic floor muscles,
improving circulation and digestion and alleviating discomfort.
