may purchase a membership for a discounted price; memberships are good
for 12 months from the date of purchase.

Introducing Plus One Program:
UNIVERSITY EXPANDS ACCESS TO
RECREATIONAL SPORTS FACILITIES
The University of Virginia has expanded access to
its recreational sports facilities as an added benefit to members of
the University community.
Current full-time students, as well as faculty and staff
members who are eligible for University benefits, will be able to sponsor
one adult (18 years or older) who resides in the same household for a
University Recreation membership. All other existing policies related
to membership, including family membership, remain unchanged.
The Plus One program was implemented as a result of a
recent opinion -- issued June 7, 2007 -- by Virginia Attorney General
Robert F. McDonnell. The opinion, which was requested by the University,
states "the
University of Virginia is authorized to provide a recreational gym membership
to an adult who is not a spouse and who lives in the household of an
employee or student."
Proof of age and verification of residence of the Plus
One member will be required as part of the Recreational
Sports membership application process. The faculty/staff/student
member sponsoring the Plus One member must be present at time
of purchase!
Accepted Documents for Proof of Residence, required
for both parties, include:
- Valid Department of Motor Vehicles Identification
(i.e. driver's license)
- Valid state or government issued license (for
personal or business)
- Printed lease with both tenant & landlord
signatures (no handwritten
documents please!)
- Voter registration card
- Top portion of federal or state income tax form,
showing name & address
- Utility bill with the name & address of Plus
One applicant.
Cost for Plus One members sponsored by faculty and staff currently
is $270/year. Plus One members
sponsored by students will pay $80 per semester. See

All Plus One members will be issued Recreational
Sports identification cards.

Family Access Cards...
are available to members with children. Some restrictions apply. Call
434.924.3791 for more information. Family members, (dependents ages 18–23),
will be issued an IM-Rec Sports photo i.d. membership card (to be issued
at the IM-Rec Sports Business Office). Membership cards for children
under age 18 do not require a photo i.d.
Guests:
Adult Guest Regulations:
- Members are entitled to sponsor a guest(s) on a daily basis by purchasing
a $5 guest pass.
- Sponsor must accompany guest(s) and is responsible for all actions
of his/her guest(s). All parties must abide by UVA regulations.
- Guest(s) must present photo I.D. verifying age (must be at least
18 y.o.) and identity.
- Guest pass is valid at all recreation facilities during operating
hours for date of purchase only.
- IM-Rec Sports reserves the right to refuse admittance to guests.
- For a refund, present a valid membership card nd this receipt within
30 days of purchase to the Aquatic & Fitness Center (AFC) Business
Office, Mon-Fri, 8:00 AM–5:30 PM.

by a current member. A Family Recreation Card (purchased from the IM-Rec
Sports office), with the children's names and valid ID card from the
parent, permit access to the pool, squash/ racquetball courts and basketball
courts during designated hours as per facility
schedules.
