The University of Virginia has expanded access to its recreational sports facilities as an added benefit to members of the University community.

Current full-time students, as well as faculty and staff members who are eligible for University benefits, will be able to sponsor one adult (18 years or older) who resides in the same household for a University Recreation membership. All other existing policies related to membership, including family membership, remain unchanged.

The Plus One program was implemented as a result of the 2007 opinion by Virginia Attorney General Robert F. McDonnell. The opinion, which was requested by the University, states  "the University of Virginia is authorized to provide a recreational gym membership to an adult who is not a spouse and who lives in the household of an employee or student."

Proof of age and verification of residence of the Plus One member will be required as part of the Recreational Sports membership application process. The faculty/staff/student member sponsoring the Plus One member must be present at time of purchase! Accepted documents for proof of residence, required for both parties, include:

Youth Memberships:

Children through age 17 are eligible to use designated recreation facilities during Family Recreation Hours when accompanied by a current adult member. Purchase a Youth Recreation Membership for your children to enjoy priority member registration opportunities and discount pricing. Youth Membership also allows facility access to the youth member during all Family Recreation hours when accompanied by an adult member, for a full year.

Guests:

Adult Guest Regulations:

1.) Members are entitled to sponsor a guest(s) on a daily basis by purchasing a $7 guest pass.
2.) Sponsor must accompany guest(s) and is responsible for all actions of his/her guest(s). All parties must abide by UVA regulations.
3.) Guest(s) must present photo I.D. verifying age (must be at least 18 y.o.) and identity.
4.) Guest pass is valid at all recreation facilities during operating hours for date of purchase with accompanying sponsor only.
5.) IM-Rec Sports reserves the right to refuse admittance to guests.
