Practical Self-Defense
In this class participants will learn self-defense in as true and accurate fashion as possible, in a balanced and well-rounded context by combining classical Eastern Martial Arts with modern self-defense skills.  Benefits include developing desirable attributes such as discipline, courage, confidence and even greater spiritual awareness while learning how to recognize and avoid or defuse potentially dangerous situations before they become violent.  Participants will be trained to have the physical tools to survive an attack if it is unavoidable. There is no sparring. Classes are energetic, fun and low impact. (10 classes)

Karatedo
The Way of The Empty Hand. Internationally certified instructors of Shoryuin Muso Chishin Ryu Heiho Shorin Ken Karatedo provide the opportunity for all participants to achieve the optimal balance, strength, self-discipline, self-confidence, and harmony of the mind, body, and spirit through classical Japanese martial arts training. Participants will also be introduced to classical Japanese martial philosophy, techniques, katas (moving meditations) and self-defense. Legitimate ranking is offered through Dai Nippon Butoku Kai (Greater Japan Martial Virtue Society), Japan's oldest and most prestigious martial arts society. No prior martial arts experience is required for class participation. (21 classes)

Beginner T'ai Chi
Empty Your Mind–Fill Your Body with Energy. This class will teach the beginning part of the Yang Style short T'ai Chi form as taught by Professor Cheng Man-Ching. The slow, flowing movements of T'ai Chi offer the student many benefits: improved balance, relaxation, stress reduction, better health. Taught in a very accessible manner, this class is appropriate for anyone interested in starting to learn about this venerable Chinese art. (10 classes)

Tae Kwon Do
Tired of your exercise routine? It's time to kick it up notch with this fun, intense, whole body workout. Learn the fundamentals of the explosive sport of Tae Kwon Do with concentration on power and speed.
Strikes: Punches, blocks, knee and elbow strikes, and standing and jumping kicks
Drills: Plyometric drills, motor skill enhancement, core strength and static and dynamic flexibility
Special: Rolls and falls, hapkido self defense take-downs, and judo throws and wrestling
No experience necessary, but be prepared to sweat and notice a dramatic increase in your strength and flexibility! (12 classes)

Iaido [CANCELLED for Fall Semester]
The Way of Sword Drawing and Harmony. Internationally certified Instructors of Shoryuin Muso Chishin Ryu Heiho Iaido and Ittoh Ryu Iaijutsu provide the fundamentals and advance skills of Iaido dynamics to all participants. Curricular objective contains proper handling of a wooden sword, basic body movements, application of basic Iaido drills, drawing, cutting, parrying, returning techniques and overall understanding of philosophy and ceremonial aesthetics of Iaido. Legitimate ranking is offered through Dai Nippon Butoku Kai (Greater Japan Martial Virtue Society), Japan's oldest and most prestigious martial arts society. No prior martial arts experience is required for class participation. (11 classes)
