HIRING Dance Instructors for Fall 2008! 

ADULT ACTIVITY INSTRUCTOR
Program Description: The Recreation Instruction Program
offers lifetime fitness opportunities to the University and Charlottesville
communities. The purpose of our program is to provide meaningful activity
opportunities and provide healthy alternatives for our adult participants.
This program runs during the fall, spring and summer semesters. Each semester
classes vary but typically fall into five categories: swim, tennis, dance,
martial arts and certification classes. We are always looking for new
program ideas so if you have experience in an activity and are interested
in teaching with IM-Rec Sports, let us know and we’ll take a look
at your proposal.
Position Description: Adult Instructors must be enthusiastic,
positive and enjoy working with people. Instructors will be responsible
for creating lesson plans, daily instruction in support of the lesson
plans, communication with participants and program supervisors, completing
administrative paperwork, as well as being a good customer service representative
for the Intramural-Recreational Sports Department. Previous teaching experience
in your area of interest strongly preferred.
Who are our instructors? Our adult instructors come
to us from a variety of places. In the past our instructors have been
UVA students, faculty or staff members as well as surrounding college
students and even Charlottesville community members. We hire enthusiastic
individuals who exhibit knowledge of their chosen activity and have the
ability to teach others.
Below are some of our consistent positions that we offer each semester:
- Dance Instructor
NOW HIRING for the Fall Semester! Classes range from hip hop, ballet,
jazz, swing and general dance formats. Starting pay $12/hr.
- Adult Tennis Instructor
Beginner, advanced beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes offered
with classes being held at Snyder Tennis Center. Previous instructor
experience preferred. Starting pay rate is $10/hr per class.
- Adult Swim Instructor
Beginner, advanced beginner, stroke mechanics and fitness swim classes
offered at the Aquatic and Fitness Center weekday evenings. Water
Safety Instructor or previous swim lesson experience preferred.
Starting pay rate is $10/hr per class (certifications raise the
starting level of pay).
- CPR/First Aid Instructor
Teach American Red Cross adult, infant, child CPR and First Aid classes
for the University community. Applicants must have current American
Red Cross Instructor certificate in either Community First Aid &
Safety or Workplace First Aid/CPR/AED. Starting pay rate is $10/hr.
- Lifeguard Instructor
Teach American Red Cross Lifeguarding and CPR-PR classes for the University
community. Applicants must have current American Red Cross Instructor
certification for Lifeguard Instructor. Starting pay rate is $11/hr.

YOUTH SWIM INSTRUCTOR
Program Description: Our youth swim program offers
lessons for infants through pre-teen age children in a group setting.
The purpose of our swim program is the help children learn to be safe
in the water by teaching basic aquatic skills. Our upper levels focus
on stroke development and refinement. This program runs primarily on Sunday
afternoons. We do offer pre-school aged group lessons on weekday mornings.
We will provide instructors with a paid orientation to our program and
an inservice training prior to the start of each session.
Position Description: Youth Swim Instructors must be
enthusiastic, positive and enjoy working with children. Instructors will
be responsible for creating lesson plans that meet the established level
curriculum, daily instruction in support of the lesson plans, communication
with parents and program supervisors, completing administrative paperwork,
as well as being a good customer service representative for the Intramural-Recreational
Sports Department.
Water Safety Instructor Certification or previous experience instructing
youth swimming lessons strongly preferred.
Starting pay rate for non-certified staff is $8/hr. Starting pay rate
for certified staff is $9/hr.
Who are our instructors? Our youth swim instructor’s

been UVA students, faculty or staff members as well as surrounding college
students and even Charlottesville community members. We hire enthusiastic
individuals who exhibit knowledge of aquatic and safety skills and who
have experience working with children. Our staff is provided with an orientation
and paid training.
Youth Swim Instructor Jobs: Are you a WSI, lifeguard,
swimmer or just love being around children? We are looking for qualified
instructors for our youth swim program. We provide paid inservice training
and offer the opportunity to work with children who are excited to learn.
Certified instructor starting pay rate is $9/hr and non-certified instructor
starting pay rate is $8/hr.
YOUTH SPORTS INSTRUCTOR
Program Description: Saturday morning youth sports
program offers a non-competitive atmosphere for children from pre-school
age through pre-teen to experience recreational activities. Some recent
offerings include tennis, basketball, soccer, tae kwon do, lacrosse
and movement classes for toddlers and pre-school aged children. New program
ideas always welcome. We will provide an orientation to our program as
well as paid inservice training.
