Presidential Inauguration: Save the Date
Wednesday, September 1, 2010
To all members of the University community:
I hope that you will mark your calendars for April 13-17, 2011, for a community-wide celebration of our great University and the extraordinary individuals -- students, staff and faculty -- who make it come alive every day.
These events will emphasize the University's primary missions of teaching, research, and service. They will include the traditional awarding of the Jefferson medals; an academic conference focused on teaching and learning; a research poster competition involving faculty members and undergraduate and graduate students; a day of service involving faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members; and a 5K/10K walk. My inauguration as the eighth president of the University will occur on Friday, April 15, 2011.
The week of Mr. Jefferson's birthday offers an appropriate time in which we can all celebrate our institution's place in the story of our nation, as well as the many unique characteristics and values that define the University of Virginia.
We are in the early stages of planning these events. More details will be available on the University's web site as the planning progresses.
