Herbert Stein

Herbert Stein, U.Va. professor emeritus who joined U.Va.'s faculty in 1971 as the A. Willis Robertson Professor of Economics, died Sept. 8. He remained on leave from U.Va. until 1974 to finish his term as chair of the Council of Economic Advisors under then-President Richard M. Nixon. Stein retired from U.Va. in 1984, but continued to write for the American Enterprise Institute, the Wall Street Journal and most recently Slate magazine.
