Principal job opening
The
post of principal of Hereford
Residential College will be open as of July 1. Applications
or nominations are being accepted until Feb. 24.
As
the chief administrator for the college, the principal and his
or her family are expected to reside in Vaughan House at the college,
to eat meals regularly with the students at Runk Dining Hall,
and to contribute to the main goals of the residential college:
the facilitation of faculty-student interaction and the integration
of intellectual and social activities for both students and faculty.
The new leader will have the freedom to shape the residential
college according to his or her vision of an ideal center for
living and learning.
The principal also is expected to:
-
oversee the annual selection of new student members;
-
supervise the college's overall operation and budget, including
student-activities budgets;
-
serve as liaison with other administrative offices;
-
appoint and supervise the coordinators of studies and the administrative
assistant;
- assist
with academic programming;
-
as vacancies arise, oversee the appointment of the two resident
faculty fellows, the nonresident fellows and friends of the
college; and
-
promote community among the student and faculty members of the
college.
The next principal or co-principals will succeed Daniel Bluestone,
associate professor of architecture, who has served for five years.
Engineering professor Melvin Cherno was the first principal from
1990 to 1995.
The
term of appointment is for three years, with potential reappointment
for an additional two years. The position is a 12-month, half-time
appointment, thus allowing for some release time from the principal's
primary department, and for salary during the summer months.
Applications or nominations should be sent by Feb. 24 to
the Hereford College Search Committee, c/o Shirley L. Menaker,
associate provost for academic support, Madison Hall. Applications
should include a letter indicating interest and potential contributions
to the college, a current curriculum vitae and the names of
two references.
