Scholars awarded Fulbright grants

Four U.Va. faculty members have received Fulbright senior scholar grants for 1999-2000 to participate in international educational exchange.

James D. Savage, associate professor of government and foreign affairs, is researching budgetary aspects of the European Union at the Eurostat office in Luxembourg from January to June. Associate professor Herman M. Schwartz, also in the government department, is teaching at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada, September 1999 through March 2000. Stephen D. Arata, associate professor of English, was a visiting faculty member at North Eastern Hill University in Shilong, India, from August to December 1999. Scott M. DeLong, an independent scholar in government, traveled in Germany last summer for a German Studies Seminar.

In addition, biologist Samih Temimi from the University of Jordan in Amman is visiting U.Va. this year as a Fulbright scholar.

The Fulbright Program is sponsored and funded by the U. S. State Department, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars.
