Scholars
awarded Fulbright grants
Four U.Va.
faculty members have received Fulbright senior scholar grants
for 1999-2000 to participate in international educational exchange.
James D. Savage, associate professor of government and
foreign affairs, is researching budgetary aspects of the European
Union at the Eurostat office in Luxembourg from January to June.
Associate professor Herman M. Schwartz, also in the government
department, is teaching at the University of Calgary in Alberta,
Canada, September 1999 through March 2000. Stephen D. Arata,
associate professor of English, was a visiting faculty member
at North Eastern Hill University in Shilong, India, from August
to December 1999. Scott M. DeLong, an independent scholar
in government, traveled in Germany last summer for a German Studies
Seminar.
In addition, biologist Samih Temimi from the University of Jordan
in Amman is visiting U.Va. this year as a Fulbright scholar.
The Fulbright Program is sponsored and funded by the U. S. State
Department, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and administered
by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars.
