Teaching Turkey

Mark Shields, assistant professor of technology, culture and communications in the Engineering School, is teaching U.Va.'s first for-credit, international distance-education course. From a high-tech classroom in Zehmer Hall, the course, "Technology and Human Development" is taught to students at Istanbul Technical University in Turkey.

The class is an example of the University's efforts to strengthen its international presence through the Virginia 2020: Agenda for the Third Century initiative.
