Shields, assistant professor of technology, culture and communications
in the Engineering School,
is teaching U.Va.'s first for-credit, international distance-education
course. From a high-tech classroom in Zehmer Hall, the course,
"Technology and Human Development" is taught to students
at Istanbul Technical University in Turkey.
The class is an example of the University's efforts to strengthen
its international presence through the Virginia 2020: Agenda for
the Third Century initiative.
